Légèrement en retrait ? La gestion de la mémoire et des entrées-sorties (16 canaux virtuels, 32 périphérique/canal) est 100% matérielle du côté d'AMD donc la participation d'INTEL dans l'introduction en Bourse (IPO) de WMware n'y changera rien.
AMD-V (virtualisation totalement matérielle) : Shadow Page Tables + Nested Page Tables + I/O virtualization (512 périphériques)
Ça n'est pas du tout le cas avec l'offre actuelle d'Intel... mais Nehalem (Core 3 ?) n'est plus très loin et copiera l'architecture DirectConnect d'AMD (contrôleur mémoire intégré + liens point à point full duplex)...
AMD-V (virtualization) :
To enhance speed and provide greater performance in multi-OS environments, a new hardware feature replaces a previous software algorithm, which translated virtual addresses into linear addresses (nested paging). While this process is slow in software, the hardware speedup will be notable. Since this translated information is required by the hypervisor (a hypervisor is a software program which allows virtualization to function), this new ability, according to AMD, will allow a cooperative environment with several operating systems running simultaneously to be observably faster due to the new hardware.

Ce n’est pas moins de 218 millions de dollars qu’Intel vient d’investir dans la société Vmware ! Cette entreprise est spécialisée dans la virtualisation. Intel et Amd ont tout deux intégré des instructions d’aide à la virtualisation dans leur CPU et s’il ne fait aucun doute que cette technologie est promise à un très bel avenir, Intel semble pour le moment légèrement en retard sur Amd.
